There has been an allegation of setting fire to the houses of BJP workers one after the other late at night in the Amta district of Howrah.
According to information received, the houses of six BJP workers, including BJP's Gram Panchayat candidate Soma Roy, were allegedly set on fire on Thursday night.
Sources also said that an old woman suffered burns in the incident. The BJP claims that the Trinamool Congress workers set their workers' houses on fire. Soma Roy is BJP's Gram Sabha candidate from Amaragori constituency under Amata Vidhan Sabha. Miscreants allegedly set fire to his house on Thursday evening around 2:30 p.m.
The local BJP leadership claimed that they could not be contacted by phone despite repeated appeals to the police. Many families in the surrounding area left the village out of fear. Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Shubhendu Adhikari strongly condemned the incident.
He posted a picture of Soma's burning house on Twitter and claimed that thousands of opposition party workers were victims of post-election violence in rural areas.
Shubhendu also claimed that their houses were set on fire and that they were being driven out of the village. However, there was no response from the local Trinamool leadership till the time of writing.
